This operation lasted 5 hours and included 8 firefighters.
- An Engine Co. was dispatched to reported lines down and sparking on VT RT 114 in Newark. As the Engine Co. responded, they had to maneuver around debris from roof tops and trees that were scattered across the roadways due to the severe windstorm that was currently going on. The Engine Co. arrival was delayed by having to cut and remove several large trees that were lying across the roadways. Once the Engine Co. did arrive on scene, reports flooded the airways of trees on power lines scattered all across town. While the Engine Co. cleared the first incident, having to avoid falling trees and remove many more that had fallen in the roadway, a decision was made to provide full-time coverage from the station until the storm moved on. During this 11 hour operation, 80% of the town was without power including the fire department which had to rely on a generator to power the station. Since Fire Alarm (our dispatch) was overwhelmed with emergency calls from other towns, the fire department decided to keep 2 firefighters at the station to handle all radio traffic while several teams - 10 firefighters in total, provided traffic control, did countless welfare checks on citizens (having to remove one resident from her home per request of the citizen) and assist the road department in removing the 100's of trees that had fallen in the road way. The fire department also setup several blockades due to down power lines in the roadways and the electric companies being overwhelmed with other calls.
